About Buccal Massage at Skin Deep Aesthetics
Buccal intraoral massage is a specialized treatment that involves gentle manipulation inside the mouth to release tension in the muscles and ligaments of the buccal fat pads located between the cheeks and jowls. This innovative technique performed in our Halifax studio, improves muscle tone and contours the jawline while promoting a more sculpted, youthful appearance.
Stressed muscles and poor circulation can obstruct lymphatic flow and the body's natural detoxification process, leading to puffiness and sagging skin. Buccal massage alleviates these issues by targeting facial muscles from within, providing numerous benefits for skin and overall facial health.
For optimal results, Buccal massage is best performed as an add-on after facial treatments like the Sculpting Facial Lift. Prior facial massage helps loosen muscles and ligaments in the buccal area, facilitating more effective release and improved results for a relaxed, youthful appearance.

How is Buccal Massage done?
After your facial treatment clean gloves are used and a specific face oil that is safe to be used inside the mouth is applied to the face and gloves for ease of massage movements.
The thumbs or index fingers are placed inside the mouth in which gentle and relaxing massage is performed. The duration of the Buccal massage typically ranges from 10-15 minutes, depending on the tightness of the jaw and facial muscles. When working inside the mouth, more is not necessarily better; a gentle, targeted approach gives the best results.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is buccal massage?
Buccal massage is an intraoral massage technique performed inside the mouth using gloves and face oil. It targets the buccal fat pads, jaw muscles, and surrounding facial tissue. By working on the muscles from the inside, I can release deep tension, improve muscle tone, and support natural facial contouring in a way that external massage alone cannot achieve.

Is buccal massage uncomfortable?
It is an unusual sensation, especially the first time, but most clients would not describe it as painful. You may feel some pressure and tenderness, particularly if you carry a lot of jaw tension (which many people do without realizing it). I work within your comfort level and communicate with you throughout the treatment. Most clients adjust quickly and find it deeply relieving.

Can I book buccal massage on its own, or is it only an add-on?
Buccal massage is offered as an add-on only, priced at $35 for a 10 to 15 minute session. It is best performed after a facial treatment because the skin and muscles are already warm, relaxed, and prepared. It pairs especially well with the Sculpting Facial Lift, but it can be added to most facial services.

What results can I expect from buccal massage?
Benefits include improved facial contouring and definition, better muscle tone, increased circulation, lymphatic drainage, and relief from jaw tension and stress. Some clients also find it helps reduce tension headaches related to clenching or TMJ discomfort. Like most treatments, results improve with consistency, but many people notice a difference in facial definition and jaw relaxation after a single session.
